We are pleased to announce the solo exhibition "Tubes and stripes" at Galeria HMH in Port Andratx.
Ariane Koch deals with patterns and ordering systems, as her stripe paintings clearly demonstrate. In a time-consuming process, complex geometric structures are created from countless layers of different colored adhesive tapes, which merge into homogeneous structures thanks to their glossy painted surfaces. It is an abstract game about surface division, proportions, intersections and points of contact, captured on a two-dimensional surface.
The effort that Ariane Koch puts into each individual work can be seen most clearly in the works made from rubber hoses. She forms sculptural bodies with artful weaving from simple rubber tubes. In these almost handcrafted objects, the deep black of the material comes to life, it connects and arranges itself in an artistic manner, creating effects and reflections, whereby these subtleties form a peculiar contrast to the utilitarian character of the material used.
