Andreas Kurus

Andreas Kurus was born in Heidelberg in 1963. Kurus is the opposite of the cosmopolitan and driven artist. With his Palatinate down-to-earth nature, he works far removed from the hustle and bustle of the world's art metropolises and allows collectors from Paris and Berlin to come to his studio.

His abstract paintings are untitled, a means of not being corrupted by representationalism or titles. Codes and streaks run through almost monochrome pictorial landscapes. One can discern echoes of Monet or Cy Twomboly, but also of the ecriture automatique of the Surrealists.

Kurus' intention is not to depict realities, but rather abstraction and the spiritual or symbolic that is hidden behind the concrete.

The large-format pictures surprise with an extraordinary effect, which is due to a special application technique: several layers of synthetic resin, which are worked over with acrylic and oil paints, watercolor crayons, wax crayons and pencils, giving the pictures a 3D look.
